WHY IT MATTERS

Wider horizons.
A stronger community.

Sailing can open a young person’s world. What matters is who they meet, what they discover and how they bring that experience home.

New horizons

Discover more of the world.

A first regatta away from home, a visiting coach or an exchange in Marblehead introduces young people to new places, people, skills and opportunities. They can bring that experience back to Eleuthera.

Learn together.

Diversity helps us grow.

When children from different settlements and backgrounds learn together, they practise listening, teamwork and mutual respect. Sailing gives them a shared task and a reason to understand one another.

The leaders of tomorrow

Give young people responsibility today.

From a first lesson to leadership.

Eliza’s international titles and the girls’ Pleon exchanges show different horizons opening through sailing. Carlien’s leadership is part of the same wider story: women shaping the community, not only taking part in it.

What the reports teach us.

Access needs consistency

Early reports describe regular school lessons and Saturday beginners. The 2022 edition connects these with nutrition, swimming and community support: participation is about more than race results.

Leadership grows through practice

The 2023–2024 report describes teen-led Little Kids Sailing and an apprentice programme. It also reflects on the need for sustained engagement and mentoring — a foundation for the local instructor plan.

Heritage creates belonging

Season 4 documents ESA’s return to sloop racing and its E-Class win. Season 5 continues that story through regattas and youth participation in Bahamian sailing culture.
