Sloop regatta
Sloop sailing brings our young sailors alongside Bahamian crews. They learn about the craftsmanship and traditions that bring our communities together.

Learn from the people who know the sea
Sugar Loaf gives dinghy sailors a way into traditional racing, where they learn from experienced crews and boat builders. Its E-Class win at the 2024 National Family Island Regatta showed how youth sailing and Bahamian heritage can strengthen each other.
We are grateful to the Regatta Desk for its support every year and to Minister Clay Sweeting’s ministry for helping us run Sugar Loaf.
Be part of regatta life
Best of the Best and Back to the Cay are central to this pathway, alongside the National Family Island Regatta. Through competition and shared experience, we connect with sailing communities beyond Eleuthera.
Grow the sloop programme
We want to add another E-Class sloop alongside Sugar Loaf so more young sailors can train and compete. Later, a C-Class sloop by 2030 would allow a larger crew to sail together.
Care for our existing fleet and the people who run the programme comes first.
Looking ahead
Our longer-term ambition is to build boats with schools and see sloops representing settlements across Eleuthera.
